Fly Away (by Amiah Hanson)

August 26, 2017 Writings 2

Dreams run away on cloven hooves,

Something only imagination

Rubs up against.

Wind brushes through dreams’ wings.

Tantalizing, just out of reach,

You can’t tear your eyes away.

Just keep seeking, they disappear

When you try to get close.

Try to groom the details

There’s always another bur.

I once saw a dreamless person.

She was a shadow.

The dream never came back.

I don’t want that.

Even though no rope can hold a dream,

I’ll keep trying.

Different length?

Different thickness?

Nope, can’t corner it.

The stars beckon to me.

If I could walk on the moon I’d get no closer.

There is always another hope, another star.

Your dreams don’t come true!

That’s silly.

Dreams are cunning.

They pad away only to come back.

Reach for them, they tell you

Not yet.

Never yet.

Never will be.

Keep trying.

And you do.
